Friday 1 August
Woodbridge Art and Music Launch Party at Trans Europe Express with
The Woodentops
Diesel (Xpress 2)
Horton Jupiter aka Mystic Rock
Ben Osborne (UK)
Nico De Ciglia (Italy)
and more to be announced.
93 Feet East 150 Brick Lane London EC1
FREE ENTRY 9-1am
For the London launch party we’ve invited The Woodentops, the band that first connected indie guitar music to the balearic and acid house DJ scene, to play a rare live set.
Recently re-formed, The Woodentops became the pre-baggy face of guitar music during the dance revolution of the late ’80’s and early 90’s, paving the way for later acts such s Happy Mondays. They were the darlings of John Peel as well as the first generation of UK, Ibiza, Chicago and New York house DJs. They headlined Glastonbury and successfully toured the USA, but they favoured experimentation and invention over recording chart fodder. This is a rare chance to witness them live.
They are joined by guest DJ Diesel, who was amongst the DJs who supported the Woodentops integration into the dance music community, as a young DJ circling amongst London’s Boys Own collective. Also DJing is Horton Jupiter, aka Mystic Rock, one time lead singer of They Came From The Stars I saw Them - a crossover indie-dance band that picked up where Woodentops left off.
With more to be announced, the night features rotating resident DJs from Italy, France and the UK, with Noise of Art’s Ben Osborne and Gucci Thump’s Nico De Ciglia taking it in turns behind the decks, plus more to be announced.
Nearest station - Liverpool Street.
